Art and Design Technology

The Bachelor of Education in Art and Technology is a newly developed programme in the Department of Educational Innovations in Science and Technology. The proposed period for admitting the first batch of students is the 2024/2025 academic year. The programme will equip students with theoretical knowledge and enthusiasm to promote Art education in Ghana. The programme also will offer students the opportunity to pursue postgraduate education in Art Education, African Art and Culture, and Visual Arts Education at MA, MPhil, and Ph.D. levels.

The programme has three domains comprising the 2D and 3D Art disciplines, Pedagogy, and Technology. The programme aims to train high calibre professional Art and technology Educators to provide quality Art and Technology Education in Ghanaian Junior and Senior High schools and using emerging technologies and flexible pedagogic strategies. The programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and integration of technology-enhanced skills toward the effective handling of the various Creative Visual Art and Technology-based programmes in the Junior and Senior High Schools, as well as Technical and Vocational Institutions.

The uniqueness of this programme is grounded on the fact that emerging technologies make the programme very promising to the extent that students can choose from many technologies to accomplish their tasks. Even though Art Education programmes are offered in other institutions in Ghana, none of them conspicuously integrates technology as defined in this programme. This makes the programme unique because it will equip 21st-century leaders with competencies to effectively manage Art and Technology education at all levels of education.

The B.ED Art and Design Technology programme aims to train high calibre professional Art and technology educators to provide quality Art and Technology Education in Ghanaian Senior High schools using emerging technologies and flexible pedagogies. Again, it is designed to equip student teachers with knowledge and integration of technology-enhanced skills toward the effective handling of the various Creative Visual Art and Technology-based programmes (i.e. Art and Design Foundation / Art and Design Core) in the Senior High Schools, and Technical and Vocational Institutions.
